You Can Beat BioShock: Infinite’s Second DLC without Killing a Single Splicer

Irrational Games may be shutting its doors, but head honcho Ken Levine is still on the campaign trail for BioShock: Infinite’s final piece of downloadable content, Burial At Sea: Episode 2. Most recently, he revealed that the studio’s second return to Rapture will have a much heavier focus on stealth and sneakery, rather than the franchise’s usual gratuitous gunplay.

The auteur also noted that the DLC will feature a special “1998” difficulty setting inspired by the sly and seminal Thief series, which will require you to complete the game without killing a single enemy. This mode’s name makes reference to the “1999” setting found in the full game, which provided a challenge more akin to the classic shooters that Levine cut his teeth on.

“In Burial at Sea: Episode Two, we put a focus on balance and stealth mechanics,” the luminary stated. “As we were developing this new style of gameplay, we started to see people self-impose non-lethal playthroughs. Given the fan reception of 1999 Mode, we thought that it would be cool to give them another way to play Burial at Sea that challenged their mastery of stealth tools.”

  How long is BioShock Infinite?

This will undoubtedly be music to the ears of all those people who thought that the main game was entirely too violent, and will also hopefully provide a new and interesting way to experience everyone’s favourite Randian dystopia. Do you plan on taking a non-lethal approach to Infinite’s second set of DLC, or will you be bringing an Elizabethan level of hurt to its psychotic splicers? Spout some objectivist nonsense in the comments section below.
