You can play this game using the standard Joy-Con controllers (attached or detached) or the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. The Poké Ball Plus device (which launched alongside Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee) cannot be used as a controller, although it may be used for certain communication functions.
If you go to the in-game Options menu, you can choose “Casual Controls” to adjust the button mapping so it’s easier to play with a single Joy-Con. This is somewhat similar to playing Let’s Go Pikachu/Eevee with a detached Joy-Con or the Poké Ball Plus.
