Is Julie and the Phantoms season 2 coming in 2021?
Julie and the Phantoms might just be one of the most underrated gems hiding in Netflix’s ever-growing content library! Having debuted on Netflix in September 2020, the series has quickly developed a passionate following who have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of Julie and the Phantoms season 2.
Hailing from Kenny Ortega, aka the man behind such hit musical franchises such as High School Musical and Descendants, and Paul Becker (Mirror Mirror, Descendants), Julie and the Phantoms draws inspiration from the Brazilian series Julie e os Fantasmas it’s based on which is all about following dreams and discovering your inner strengths.
Setting the series aside from Netflix’s many other teen series is the show’s incredible ability to weave in musical numbers with music playing a crucial role in the story in a truly unique way.
For those unfamiliar with this 2020 breakout hit, here’s the premise.
What is Julie and the Phantoms about?
As the title of the series alludes, Julie and the Phantoms centers around a high school student named Julie (played by newcomer Madison Reyes) who rediscovers her love of music with help from the ghosts of three bandmates (played by Charlie Gillespie, Owen Patrick Joyner and Jeremy Shada). Now that your interest has been piqued, here’s how Netflix describes the series:
High schooler Julie lost her passion for music after her mom died last year. But when the ghosts of three dreamy musicians from 1995 suddenly appear in her mom’s old music studio, Julie feels her own inner spirit beginning to reawaken, and she’s inspired to start singing and writing songs again. As their friendship with Julie grows, the boys convince her to create a new band together: Julie and the Phantoms.
With only nine episodes in the show’s debut season, fans have been begging for an encore and have been anxiously anticipating the arrival of new episodes of Julie and the Phantoms. As for when fans of this series might get the chance to catch new episodes, here’s what we know so far.
Is Julie and the Phantoms season 2 debuting in 2021?
Although season 1 of Julie and the Phantoms dropped in September 2020, Netflix has yet to officially renew the series for a second season but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t rule out Julie and the Phantoms season 2 just yet.
As discussed in a recent episode of Netflix Life: A Streaming TV Podcast, rumor has it a second season could perhaps be on the way later this year with speculation growing that season 2 might arrive sometime in the fall of 2021. While nothing has been made official just yet by Netflix, a companion book based on the series is set to hit shelves in August and speculation is growing that a second season could arrive sometime in September 2021.
Of course, we’ll have to wait for Netflix to confirm the renewal of the series, but a fall 2021 premiere date definitely seems within reason and would surely give fans something to celebrate and look forward to.
