Beyoncé’s first Grammy win came in 2000 when she and the other members of Destiny’s Child took home trophies for their hit song, “Say My Name.”

It wasn’t until three years later she won her very first Grammy Award as a solo artist. As expected, Beyoncé was overcome with emotion when her name was called and couldn’t keep the smile off of her face as she gave a speech with her 28th Grammy award in hand.

“I am so honored, I am so excited. Thank you guys,” Beyoncé said. “As an artist, I believe it’s my job, and all of our jobs to reflect the times, and it’s been such a difficult time. So I wanted to uplift, encourage, and celebrate all of the beautiful black queens and kings that continue to inspire me and inspire the whole world.”
