The Eagles on Sunday gave up 513 yards of offense to the Cowboys in the 37-17 loss at AT&T Stadium.

It’s the first time in franchise history the Eagles have given up 500+ yards in back-to-back games. But once you look at their defensive snap counts, you start to understand how it happened.

Who the heck are these guys?

  • This was a most unusual defensive rotation. Who thought coming into this season we’d see a game where Grayland Arnold, Marcus Epps and Michael Jacquet would each play 40+ snaps in the secondary? And then K’Von Wallace also played 19 snaps.
  • Ultimately, this was a game where Arnold, Epps, Jacquet, Genard Avery, T.Y. McGill, Wallace, Raequan Williams, Joe Bachie and Shaun Bradley all played double digit snaps. Not how the Eagles drew it up this year.
  • Without Derek Barnett and Josh Sweat, Avery took the most snaps of his season and Joe Ostman took the most of his career.
  • Fletcher Cox lasted just seven snaps before he was forced out of the game with a stinger. Cox has been dealing with a neck injury for several weeks.
  • Without Duke Riley and after Shaun Bradley got hurt, Bachie ended up playing the first 18 defensive snaps of his career. Be honest: How many of you were watching yesterday thinking, “Who the heck is No. 59?”
  • Even Rudy Ford, who hasn’t seen a defensive snap all season as a special teams ace, played five on defense.

Offensive notes

  • Jalen Hurts and 4/5ths of the offensive line played all 73 snaps against the Cowboys. Jason Kelce on the season is 1,056/1,060 on the season. Jordan Mailata played 63 before leaving to get checked for a concussion.
  • At receiver, Greg Ward led the way with 66 snaps, followed by Jalen Reagor with 43. Then Alshon Jeffery played 26, Travis Fulgham 22, DeSean Jackson 20, Quez Watkins 12. Jackson had one catch and led the receivers with 81 yards but his ankle got sore during the game.
  • Dallas Goedert played 41 snaps before leaving with a calf injury. Zach Ertz led the way for the tight ends with 62 snaps.
  • Miles Sanders played 57 snaps but got just 15 carries for 57 yards. Boston Scott had 8 snaps and Jordan Howard had 7.
